Sometime when Jewelia was 4 years old, she went to a music store where they sold all kinds of musical instruments. She was fascinated by the violins and how they had small ones that could fit even her. She began asking if she could have a "mini violin" just for her. We told her that she needed to be a little bigger, but she never lost interest in the idea of having her own mini violin.
At Christmas in 2009, Jewelia got her wish---there under the tree was a mini violin just for her!
Here is a video of her first encounter with the violin:
Yikes! Maybe she would sound better after finding a violin teacher.
Now that Jewelia had some experience singing a little bit in public, she began joining her older brothers singing in church. Her family was asked to speak in church one Sunday, and so they also planned a special musical number where 3 of the kids would sing.
Here is just a practice of the song they presented in church. They practiced a lot. Maybe that is why older brother looks so enthusiastic.
Jewelia was 3 and 1/2 now, and she wasn't scared of anything. They asked a group of kids to sing in church at Christmas time, and Jewelia didn't know how to read, but figured out the words to the song they were going to sing. She did so well, that in the end decided to let Jewelia sing the first verse as a solo. She did so well and sang right along with the music into a microphone for all to hear.
Here is a video of her practicing her solo at home the night before:
